DEEP Overview

If you are interested in high speed computation, you should use DEEP, the development environment for performance programming (including MPI programs) and scalar programs with PAPI. The DEEP system provides an integrated interactive GUI interface that binds performance, analysis, and debugging tools back to the original parallel source code. With these tools, you can understand and investigate parallel program structure, performance, and behavior. DEEP supports parallel program development in many situations:

Fortran (77, 90, 95) and C (and mixed Fortran and C).

Unix and Windows/NT.

Distributed memory

MPI
High Performance Fortran.
Data Parallel C.

Shared memory

Scalar performance

PAPI -- hardware counters (e.g. cache misses).
Inclusive and exclusive loop-level performance statistics for any program.

DEEP/MPI

Due to the popularity of MPI for large parallel systems, we have a special version of DEEP aimed at support of MPI programs. Much more information about DEEP can be found in these pages.

DEEP/PAPI

We also have a special version of DEEP that supports the PAPI interface, which provides access to hardware counters on many systems. Through PAPI, DEEP can report such statistics as Level 2 cache misses or MFlops rate at the loop level and function level.
